o.blaat interviewed by Miya Masaoka (talking mainly re: Share)

Great performer, composer, musician, researcher, Miya Masaoka, conducted an interview for Critical Studies in Improvisation / Etudes critiques en improvisation, Vol 1, No 3 (2006)
I'll post it at 'interviews' section on my site later... but for now, check the below url:

(Some content in it including a bit of mis-understanding: such as... no one really refers Rich Panciela, one of Share co-founders, as 'Barry' but his name was quoted as such. I also mentioned that my training in tap in NYC was mostly under Peggy Spina - who has been another choreographer exploring and pursueing 'new music' in tap dance field... but was omitted. With Anita Feldman, my relationship was with some attendance to her quite interesting workshops... she is really a top-notch tap-composer, regardless. I may have more explanatory... but will add them later.)

Autodidacticism in New Media Art @American Folk Art Museum, NYC, Jan. 29th, 06 at 10 AM

I'll be a part of the following... (come if you're an early riser;)

, coffee provided

Moderator Mark Tribe, an artist, curator, and educator whose interests lie at the intersection of emerging technologies and contemporary art, and panelists Mary Flanagan, W. Bradford Paley and Keiko Uenishi, new media artists, will discuss how they gain the conceptual, aesthetic, and technological skills and knowledge to do what they do. The conversation will examine the idea of what constitutes a self-taught new media artist, and whether this terminology applies to digital artwork being created today.

UnityGain @Issue Project Room, Sat. Nov. 12th

Unitygain <> rides again Saturday Oct 29th
at the issue Project Room
in Carroll Gardens Brooklyn.

Active since 1998 the Unitygain platform for live AV electro-media
performance was among the first of the NYC 'immersive' events coming
out of the 'Illbient' period to concentrate on a balanced architectural
integration of live (and only live) electronic music and realtime video
Originally the unrequited love child of 80's thru 90's musical
adventurer David Linton - who organized the sound system participants -
and 70's avant 'analog' video accolade / proto VJ enfant terrible
Benton-C Bainbridge - who did something analogous for the video - UG
eventually morphed into a late nite Manhattan Cable TV show: UGTV (MNN
channel 34 1 AM Sundays) and then almost out of existence
But it's not over till the fat lady sings and since we've large and of
late managed to steer clear of the vocal arts we've no lasting worries
in that regard and so:....
Here we are again... This time at Suzzane Fiol's incredible Gowanus
Canal Playground for the Avant Guard 'Rich and Famous' - The Issue
Project Room - with a lovely lineup of dazzling electronic darlings
from all over the map of today's personal media expression landscape in
a bodymind banging collaborative soiree of electronic art... ya dig?

featuring darlings performing audio:
> Aerostatic (NYC)
> David Last (NYC)
> David Linton (NYC)
> o.blaat (NYC)
> Sariah Storm (LA)
> Socks and Sandals (NYC)
> Steve Nalepa (LA)

on stephan moore's 16 channel hemispherical speaker system

& featured darlings performing video:
>Chika (NYC)
>Chris Jordan (NYC)
>David Lublin (Troy NY)

<>on the hausofouch semi- spherical beg borrow and steal projection system

honorary guest darlings
(doing whatever they want to):
>Bill Etra
>Benton C Bainbridge

Door @ 9PM
this is a seemless 4 hour event where audio artists rotate 15 min sets
with continuous multi channel video 'over' mixing.

Saturate yourself in onkyo - an umbrella term (fast becoming an international expression) for a new genre of computer music that is primarily atonal, noise-based and improvised. Eat, drink and be merry—with Japan’s most revolutionary composer/musicians of electronic sound pieces, curated by Carl Stone, the U.S. pioneer of live computer music hailed by the Village Voice as The king of sampling. Held in a hanami party (spring night flower-gazing) atmosphere, the audience is encouraged to come and go during the four-hour marathon.

Japanese artists include Otomo Yoshihide, considered the founder of the onkyo movement and leader of Ground Zero, who has been featured in major music festivals worldwide; leading electronica composer and former DJ Nobukazu Takemura, whom Spin magazine called An enigma who stitches elegantly guileless symphonies out of a zillion delicate obsessive compulsive ticks; Sachiko M, whose cutting-edge recordings consist entirely of sine wave improvisations that have become the focus of international interest; Paris-based AOKI takamasa, a rising figure in electronic music worldwide; rough-edged sound from Taku Hannoda, a young guitar-electronica virtuoso from Osaka; and Yoshimitsu Ichiraku, acclaimed for his drum/live video sampling performance Doravideo. Select New York-based composer/musicians, including the famed Elliott Sharp and o.blaat (Keiko Uenishi), will join this stellar group for improvisation sessions.

Tickets: $25/$20 Japan Society & Roulette members,
two-day pass $40/$32 Japan Society & Roulette members.
Re-entry permitted with hand stamp.

i must've been sleeping... nah!

yeah. what happened?!
i f**ked up my bla.gger link unnecessarily.
it wasn't on purpose... but, things happen.
and i got lazy & busy with quite boring stuff.
now, the year has changed, and the 2nd. month is about to end.
i got the link fixed as well. (i think??)
let's try all over again.

my beloved 'share' has become officially homeless. ('openair' is over! the name has been changed, and it has become a quite boring generic bar. so who cares?!)
'share' is now totally mobile! every week is the new experience!! it's actually a new & exciting phase for us.
find where we are every week >>> here.

so many things i have to scribble.
a lot are coming up, but more later.
(i'll promise i'll update & organize this site, shortly!!)

oh before i'm going... i had a totally touristic early p.m. activity yesterday!
went to check out christo & jeanne-claude's 'the gate' in central park (finally;)
it was actually quite cool. esp. since it took 26 years (to obtain all the permits etc.) for them to realize the project, and the gigantic installation was funded by themselves. geez!!!
they refused to take volunteers. - they hired hundreds of workers.
they donated all the sales rights to nurture the nature org. my! a friend who accidentally saw a documentary about them on ch. 13, thought they were nuts (& she thought jeanne-claude was quite bitchy.)
well, i don't quite care how nutty they are. the walk in the park was quite cool!
elsa & i walked around through many gates (like many others) in shiny snow background.
that colour looked like the one hare krishnas wears.
elsa said she & her friend in cathoric girl school once worn hare krishna robes for halloween, and everybody in the school treated them like 'weirdos'. i thought it was totally amazing!

o.blaat's appearance for Ryuichi Sakamoto's CD launch party!

(newly updated info for this concert)
Hello! I'm really happy to announce that I'd be performing for Ryuichi Sakamoto's new CD 'Chasm' launch party, this Friday, Sept. 17th!!
It's to be at Soho Grand Hotel's lounge at upstairs (where the hotel's check-in couter is located) - please do not confuse with 'Tribeca Grand'! It's the same ownership (so I believe), but it's some blocks away although quite close from each other.
My long time dear friend, Christina Wheeler is performing too! We will perform altogether besides our sets. It'd be lots of fun:)
and for this occasion, I'm planning to do some unusual version (my kinda) of live remixing plenty of tidbits of material culled from the CD.
Don't miss this _very_ rare chance to hear me to do live remixing(!)
The party is free but it may get congested, so please send email or call up to put your name on the list just in case.
See you! -
