ORTPLAY @ORT (330 Ellery St., 1st + 2nd Floors), as a part of BAP (Bushwick Art Projects)

Sat. Nov. 12, 2005, approximately running from 4 p.m. - 11 p.m. (STARTING TIME HAS BEEN CHANGED!! and also check updated hours on this page, or join our txtmob!)

music and sound, installed, performs. dance improvises. space gets invested. a climate occurs. text is produced and pronounced. projects on screen, an instigation, an animation, fashion. play. two floors, a rooftop, nesting spaces like Russian dolls unfold against and into each other. live. work. play.

Who Is?

---------------------------------------------

Arbeit (Ariana Reines) - GAGGED ELEGIES - around 10 p.m. at Ground Floor

arbeit gets taped and gagged and you whisper lines of rilke to her, so that her croaking ruination of a voice eventually becomes a holler, a sob, a cow lowing, a "cri de la nature". out of the most exquisite sentiments come an excretion, which is the voice. poetry is dead.
come if you can; bring the ones you love; downstairs at ORT. it's a good time to spend the day and night in bushwick-- there are all kinds of performances and open studios all over town.
don't worry, arbeit's not art. it's just fun and games until somebody gets hurt. love, ariana

---------------------------------------------

Samir Bitar >> http://ibitar.com - happening around 4 p.m.

Samir Bitar and A TRIO of ORT Space make a dance:

4 dancers in 4 windows
amplified sound of an a cappella singer on roof top deck.
7 minutes
audience watches from outside.
one by one the dancers leave thier interior window and approach tall siren on rooftop.
As a dancer approaches, she quites her song for a moment and watches
the dancer execute a series of minimal and fluid movements echoing the
juxtapositioning of a 19th century school house building and a 21st
century urban "hip hop" neighborhood
the dance is a strucutred improvisation.
it is a dance that studies minimalism.
the movement has a lightness.

Performed by A TRIO (Camille de Galbert, Cathy Richards, Beau Hancock and Alex Marculewicz)

    ** always check schedule/route re: train/bus with http://mta.info !!

    trains:
J to Flushing Ave. (4th stop from LES/manhattan.. if you're coming from willyburg, 3rd stop from marcy ave.)

upon exiting, take right side of staircase (facing to the token booth) which would lead you to go down in front of Duane Reade - corner of Broadway & Flushing Ave.

cross Flushing Ave. to another corner where big construction is in process, then keep walking on Broadway for 3 blks (away from Manhattan)... so you'll see Ellery St. is crossing with Broadway. Make left on Ellery St. (it's within 3-5 min walk.)

G to Flushing Ave. (from greenpoint/mid-willyburg/downtown-brooklyn)

upon exiting, walk on Flushing Ave. towards Woodhull hospital/Broadway.

once you hit Broadway, make right and walk 3 blks. so you'll see Ellery St. is crossing with Broadway. Make left on Ellery St. (it's within 8-10 min. walk.)

    -------------------

1/2 a block from the corner of Ellery & Broadway, is 330 Ellery St. on your right side. (which is a big brick house.)

Press either a buzzer for ground &/or 2nd. flr.

MAKE SURE TO CLOSE & LOCK the BUILDING DOOR !! (very important!!!!)

(in case, your train happens to be an express train & skip 'Flushing Ave', then get off at 'Myrtle Ave' which is one stop further.. in this case, come back on broadway towards manhattan.

in about 6 or 7 blks back, you'll see ellery st. crossing broadway. make right on ellery. and you'll find the same bldg!:)

    ---------------------------
    buses:

B15 is my new discovery! (I've known it as my 'cheapest transportation to JFK' from my home, however, it wasn't until my latest ride from the airport, to discover the B15 is also good for downtown Brooklyn residents! It travel through near BAM area! - yey:))) Plz get off 'second from the last stop'. Ask the bus driver to drop you off 'on Broadway between Park & Ellery'.

B43 comes very close to our house. (if you're coming from greenpoint &/or northside)

get off at Graham ave./Broadway, then walk away from manhattan on broadway... in 4 blks, you'll see ellery st. crossing with broadway. make left.

B57 if you're coming from Fort Greene. get off at Flushing Ave./Broadway

B46 if you're coming from south willyburg.
